Located about 2,200 km from the capital Santiago, it is the getaway to Antarctica and a tourist center for those who want to visit Patagonia.
The Magallanes National Reserve was created by supreme decree in 1942, with the objective of protecting the basin of the Laguna Lynch, the main supply source of the city of Punta Arenas that flows into the Río de los Ciervos and the Río de la Minas.
Initially, its surface covered only 2,000 hectares, but in 1939 it was expanded to cover the current 20,878, forming part of the National System of State Protected Wilderness Areas in the Region, with a total of 11 units, administered by the National Forestry Corporation ( Conaf).

This tour is ideal for a special visit to the Magallanes Reserve. It leaves Punta Arenas at 10 AM and we will make a short drive to the Magallanes National Reserve, just 20 minutes away.
Once we arrive, we will get out of the vehicle and start exploring this impressive natural oasis on foot.
Throughout three and a half hours, we will enjoy walking through the different trails that cross the reserve and we will try to spot the local fauna. If we are lucky, we will be able to see the legendary red fox. Finally, we will head back to Punta Arenas at 1:30 p.m.

This beautiful natural park with an altitude of 350 to 600 meters above sea level has six paths for trekking and mountain biking.
Its unique topographical landscape and water reserves allow sports and recreational activities, because it has picnic and camping sites equipped with sheds, bathrooms, and hot showers for those who wish to spend an afternoon with the family.

How to get to Punta Arenas
Although the city seems to be located at the end of the world, getting to Punta Arenas is not that difficult. The getaway to Punta Arenas and Chilean Patagonia is the local airport, located about 20 km from the city.
Three main Chilean airlines: LATAM, Sky and JetSmart serve the Punta Arenas airport with some daily flights from Santiago, as well as a couple of other destinations in Chile and Argentina. There are also charter flights to King George Island in Antarctica.
Getting from the airport to the city is not difficult: shared transfers and taxis are available for CLP 5,000 and CLP 10,000 respectively.
